Parasolid Level Playing Field

The Parasolid Level Playing Field Policy is a simple approach to Parasolid business that allows Parasolid customers to confidently license Parasolid technology from UGS. The key components of the Level Playing Field Policy are the following:

• Guaranteed access to the Parasolid technology. Every Parasolid customer receives exactly the same version of Parasolid simultaneously. All the capabilities developed in Parasolid are made available to all customers. Since the Parasolid XT file format has been provided as an open standard, anyone can access Parasolid data without paying any royalty fees or signing any licensing agreements.
• Fairly applied pricing. Parasolid has a well established, written pricing policy that is applied consistently across all customers. There are low up front costs to encourage innovation, even by the smallest companies, and there are configurations tailored to both demanding, advanced applications, as well as solutions aimed at interoperability.
• One royalty fee covers all of Parasolid.Parasolid does not sell extra cost modules [husks] to provide more advanced versions of capabilities that should have worked in the kernel itself. We do offer additional value to our customers in the form of separately priced add-on application toolkits, that add specialized capabilities on top of the Parasolid kernel that are not appropriate to be placed inside the kernel itself. The total cost of using the Parasolid kernel is related to the revenue it helps generate for our customers, so we have a genuine interest in the long-term success of our customers.
• Dedicated development team. Parasolid is developed by a dedicated team of solid modeling professionals co-located in our Cambridge, UK development site. UGS guarantees that there will be continual investment, development and support of Parasolid for the foreseeable future. We are committed to keeping Parasolid a leader in the market for kernel modeling software.
• Fair access to support services. All customers have access to the identical services provided by the Parasolid Support team. We respond to critical problems without regard to which customer reported the problem originally, and we make Update Releases available to all customers when needed.
• Fair basis for competition. UGS's Unigraphics and Solid Edge businesses do not use UGS's ownership of Parasolid as a means for competing against other Parasolid-powered CAD systems. The level of competition in the CAD industry has risen above the b-rep kernel modeler level and now involves ease of use, features, assemblies and innovative applications of the technology.
• Parasolid is an independent line of business. Even though Parasolid is part of UGS, we have organized Parasolid as an independent Line of Business, having its own development, sales, training and support resources. We are very careful in acknowledging that many of our customers are competitors with each other and with other Lines of Business of UGS, and we take extraordinary precautions to insure that confidentiality is respected and that our business practices are beyond reproach.
