Parasolid Workshop makes prototyping Parasolid based applications and viewing XT files a simple task in the Windows NT environment. As well as providing high performance visualization of XT files, the extensible Parasolid Workshop architecture allows the creation of add-on components. These components can access all the Parasolid functionality, and using the Parasolid Workshop Wizard in Microsoft Visual Studio makes the development of new components a quick and simple task.

Parasolid Workshop Makes Prototyping Easy

Parasolid is a powerful kernel solid modeling toolkit. Much of its appeal is that its domain is strictly modeling and that users of it are free to choose the graphical and user-interface environments that they want. Use of Parasolid has grown significantly and there is a sizeable portion of the user base, both new and established customers, who have requested a basic GUI framework. Parasolid Workshop provides one that is user extensible. New customers will find it very helpful for getting started. Existing customers can use it to prototype without having to reorganize their existing products. Researchers can concentrate on their area of expertise without having to waste valuable resources creating a framework.

Parasolid Workshop Has an Extensible Architecture

The Parasolid Workshop architecture was designed for extensibility. It provides Open/GL graphics, object picking and printing in a framework integrated with the MFC environment. The Microsoft Visual Studio Parasolid Workshop Wizard enables one to focus on developing Parasolid functionality in C++. Standard Microsoft tools are used to build a personalized GUI consisting of drag down items, menus, radio buttons, and dialogue boxes. The Wizard creates a DLL that links Parasolid Workshop`s GUI with the new application on the fly.

Parasolid Workshop Iincludes Example Extensions

Multiple DLLs containing Parasolid functionality can be loaded simultaneously into Parasolid Workshop. Parasolid Workshop includes full source code to an example add-on DLL. This DLL exposes a simple subset of Parasolid`s powerful blending and hollowing. This source code demonstrates how to:

  • Work with lists of entities that were selected in the Parasolid Workshop framework
  • Create simple dialog boxes
  • Create more advanced GUI options
  • Automatically update the graphics as the model changes

Parasolid Workshop Visualizes XT Files

As well as providing a state of the art prototyping environment, Parasolid Workshop can also be used as a visualization tool allowing interaction with Parasolid models. It supports drag and drop of XT files and generates shaded and wire-frame images. Multiple models can be loaded and the display in each window can be set independently. More than just a viewer, Parasolid Workshop is part of the Parasolid Data Pipeline and can be used to convert models between different versions of Parasolid.

Availablilty

Parasolid Workshop has been developed for the convenience of Parasolid customers. It works with the Parasolid DLL in a Windows environment. It can be extended using MS Visual C++ 6.0. Parasolid Workshop is currently available at no charge to existing Parasolid licensees under Maintenance and Support agreements.
